This blog, Beyond the Pacific, evolved from a former podcast and side business hustle, one of many changes during the COVID-19 era. Whether we’ve just met and it’s led you to this space or are a returning reader, welcome. I’m Miriam Fairhead (née Ratu), though most know me as Miri.
I was raised in Melbourne after migrating from Fiji in 1987 with my family. In 2000, I left the big smoke to join Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Maroochydore. Five years later, I married my husband, an Englishman from Bristol. Together, we are focused on building Kingdom-driven businesses and serving our local community in our hometown of Gold Coast.
2015-2019: In the beginning…
In 2015, I launched this blog as a side hustle during the global blogging boom. Sharing online content and connecting with like-minded people from the USA, UK, South Africa, the Pacific Islands, and across Australia was electric.
As my audience grew, blogs evolved into vlogs, and I shared some personal poems. I then created the Pacific Dialogue podcast, the first of its kind, spotlighting Pacific Islander trailblazers and their top three tips for success. But when COVID-19 hit, my momentum faded leading to shelving blogging, vlogging, and podcasting for three years from December 2019.
2020-2022: A time of self-discovery…
The pandemic may have halted the world, but for me (an ambivert) it offered a welcome pause. I got to redirect my energy toward family, creativity, music, and gardening. It became a time of reflection, reassessment, and realignment.
More importantly, the 3-year season sparked a personal transformation. I returned to my faith after years of drifting, trading restless living for a foundation built on faith, hope, and love. In that quiet space, I rediscovered a deep well of joy and peace that truly surpasses understanding.
2023-present: I’m back!
Like emerging from a cocoon, I’m embracing a purpose-driven life with my husband, daughter, and our two Ragdoll cats, Cleo and Patra. I cherish doing life with friends over great food, wine, and travel. My passion for learning led me back to my alma mater of Bond University as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) candidate graduating in 2026.
Who knows where Beyond the Pacific will go next … but for now, I’m loving this new chapter and enjoying the ride!
“And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.” Mark 2:22 NIV.
