Paris C’est Chic

The magic began the moment I set foot in Paris on the 26th of August, 2023. There’s something undeniably enchanting about the city that’s palpable in its air. Paris, with its rich tapestry of history, culture, and art, promised an unforgettable five-day adventure for my hubby and I … and it delivered beyond my expectations!

France – Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité

Day 1: The Majestic Louvre

My journey through Paris began at the world-renowned Louvre Museum. As I stood before its iconic glass pyramid, I was struck by the seamless blend of modernity and history. The Louvre, a treasure trove of human civilization, houses thousands of works of art, from ancient civilizations to the 19th century.

The highlight, undoubtedly, was witnessing the enigmatic smile of the Mona Lisa, a moment I had dreamt of countless times. Roaming through the corridors, each adorned with masterpieces, I felt as though I was walking through the pages of history.

Day 2: The Towering Eiffel

No visit to Paris is complete without marvelling at the Eiffel Tower. This iron lattice tower, once the tallest man-made structure in the world, offered breath-taking views of the city from its summit. The walk and elevator ride to the top was a thrilling experience, with Paris unfolding beneath me.

As evening approached, I watched the Eiffel Tower from the River Seine cruise over dinner and champagne illuminate and transform into a beacon of golden light. It was a spectacle that made me realize why Paris is called the “City of Light.”

Day 3: The Vibrant Moulin Rouge

The third day took a more spirited turn as we ventured into the nightlife of Paris at the Moulin Rouge. Known for its extravagant cabaret shows, the Moulin Rouge did not disappoint. The energy of the dancers, the dazzling costumes, and the dynamic music transported me to the Belle Époque era of Paris. It was a night of pure joy and entertainment, offering a glimpse into the Parisian love for life and art.

Day 4: The Stoic Arc de Triomphe and a Tour of Paris

On my fourth day, I paid homage to French history at the Arc de Triomphe. Standing at the western end of the Champs-Élysées, the monumental arch is a symbol of French national pride. The Arc de Triomphe also serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made for freedom, with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier lying beneath it.

After a stroll down the Champs-Élysées, we jumped on a tour bus to take in some of the glorious architecture of Paris where a mix of history and modern touches a welcome delight.

Day 5: Final Day at Notre Dame

My final day in Paris was bittersweet. I set out to explore one of Paris’s most iconic landmarks: the 850-year old Notre Dame Cathedral. Nestled on the Île de la Cité, this masterpiece of French Gothic architecture stands as a testament to human ingenuity and faith.

My short trip to Notre Dame was not just a visit; it was a reminder of the enduring beauty and resilience of this historic cathedral, especially in the wake of the fire that threatened its legacy on the 15th of April, 2019. As I left Notre Dame, I felt a deep connection to the centuries of pilgrims and visitors who had walked its aisles, marvelling at its beauty and spiritual presence.

Reflections

Paris, with its iconic landmarks, vibrant culture, and indomitable spirit, left an indelible mark on my heart. Each site I visited – the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, the Moulin Rouge, the Arc de Triomphe, the Notre Dame and cruising on the River Seine – offered a unique perspective of the city’s rich heritage and its ceaseless embrace of beauty and art. My five-day holiday was a journey through the soul of Paris, a city that celebrates life in all its forms. Until we meet again, Paris, you will remain a cherished memory, a reminder of days filled with wonder and awe.
