Season 2, Episode 1
“Planting seeds of today so future generations can enjoy the shade of tomorrow,” quoting our first podcast guest for 2019, my Samoan brother Adrian Tofilau.
In this uplifting podcast Series 2, Episode #1, Adrian takes us on his inspiring journey of how he arrived in Australia from Samoa in 1989 with only $50 in his pocket.
Thirty years later, he is a proud family man, a humble entrepreneur, role-model to our Pasifika youth and Director of Strategic Partnerships for Polynesian Festival amongst other projects he manages in his life.
In discovering more about the Polynesian Festival, Adrian shares the objectives and motivation behind the organisation, which are:
1. Provide a platform through cultural dance festival for high schools to encourage unity, harmony and respect;
2. Establish pathway programs designed to assist our youth in enhancing employ-ability skills and encourage further education in the pursuit of their careers and dreams; and
3. Work with government, private sector and Queensland Police to establish workshops helping decrease youth violence, crime and drug use in addition with mental health support programs.
The exciting aspect about the festival is that it will provide a platform where young Pacific Islanders who feel dislocated [as a result of being born in the islands and growing up in Australia] to find their way back “home.”
